Community Development Services

Helping to get you connected to your community

Intake Services
Intake Services is in place to help individuals and families solve problems, set goals and meet needs. With no appointment necessary, the Community Support Worker is available to meet with individuals and families needing crisis counseling, assistance accessing basic needs or government programs, referrals to counseling, workshops, playgroups, other agencies and much more. Other supports, such as advocacy, community connections and information are available. Intake Services provides a timely, local connection to a wealth of resources, supports and services.

Library Services
The Toy and Resource Library offers a wide selection of toys, books and videos geared to enhance the parenting experience. Our selection of books and videos focuses on a variety of topics of interest to individuals, parents and caregivers. These topics include relationships, self-esteem, pregnancy, infants, discipline, nutrition, child development, emotions, special needs and blended families. A variety of toys are available for children between 0 and 5 years of age. Parents and caregivers are welcome to borrow age appropriate toys from our collection of building blocks, infant activity centres, action toys, puzzles, games and more. Grandparents can borrow toys to entertain visiting grandchildren. Parents and caregivers of children with special needs may access our growing collection of special needs toys. On Thursday evenings (4:30 to 7:30) the library hosts a drop-in P.L.A.Y. program for moms and/or dads and children (0-5), allowing families to enjoy a variety of interactive activities.

Prevention of Bullying Services
The Peace Coordinator position is funded by the Taking Action on Bullying program which is part of Alberta Children & Youth Services. The Peace Coordinator works part time at Community Links, and part time at a partner school within the community - Our Lady Queen of Peace. The Peace Coordinator’s main role consists of working one on one or in groups with children and youth who might be experiencing bullying or friendship issues. The support can be provided for either the person being bullied or the individuals who may be bullying others. The Peace Coordinator also travels to different schools within the community to present to students and/or parents on topics such as bullying, cyber-bullying and healthy relationships. Co-facilitation with other staff of Community Links of a new program called Girls Circle, is a new role of the Peace Coordinator. This program involves working with girls on the different issues they experience growing up (i.e. self-esteem, body image, friendship, etc.). On the topic of bullying, the Peace Coordinator is not only a resource for the schools, but to the entire community.

Volunteer Services
