Counselling Program
Provides counselling to individuals, groups, couples, families, youth and children
The mission of the Counselling program is to prevent personal and family breakdown, to enhance the abilities of individuals and families to constructively manage their lives and to enrich the quality of family life.
Community Links currently has five counsellors on staff who are available to see families or individuals for issues of concern.
Child & Family Counsellors
- Children's issues.
- Primarily with children 6 - 11 years and their families.
- Special interest in children with trauma related issues.
Youth Counsellor
- Primarily works with older children (ages 6 & up), youth (ages 12 - 18) and some adults
- Specializes in parent-teen conflict, separation/divorce, blended-family issues and domestic violence
- Experience in helping people cope with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, grief and loss and anger issues
- Special interest in helping children and teens cope with bullying
Family Counsellors
- Individual, couple, and family.
- Specializing in grief and trauma issues.
- Group support.
Fees for counselling programs are based on a sliding scale. No-one is refused services due to financial reasons. Self-referrals are welcome. Appropriate referrals to other agencies may be made.
www.Shelternet.ca can help to bridge the gap for women seeking shelter on-line and take women quickly to the shelters web site in their area or, if a shelter does not have a site, to information taken from the directory information available from the National Clearinghouse on Family Violence.
Men's Treatment Services
The Men’s Treatment Program in Airdrie is for men who have been mandated by the court to complete Domestic Violence counselling. There is also an opportunity for non-mandated men to choose to take part in the program. The program is an ongoing group and participants finish after completing fourteen 2.5 hour sessions.
The group runs on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm – 9:00pm at Community Links. The Men’s Treatment Program also offers individual counselling scheduled around the participant’s work schedule if the individual is working shift work or working out of town. For the Men’s Treatment program there is a fee based on a sliding scale. Topics covered in the program include relationships, anger, accepting responsibility, substance abuse, resolving conflicts, managing stress, and healthy support systems.
